Homemade Detergent

I’ve wanted to make my own homemade laundry detergent for awhile but never got around to it. Until now! I went to store and bought soap, washing soda, and baking soda (this replaces Borax which is in many homemade detergents). Below are pictures documenting everything. The recipe is simple. #1. Grate one bar of soap (I chose Ivory but anything is fine). #2. Add 1 cup of washing soda. #3. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda. #4. Mix by hand and then by food processor. (If you don’t have a food processor, try to chop up the grated soap as small as possible and it’ll be fine.) #5. One tablespoon is enough for one load. (Two tablespoons if the load is extra dirty.) #6. Store in an airtight container.

Some people prefer liquid detergent. I chose powder because its easier and quicker to make and easier to store. Also, you’ll notice I have quite a bit in my container. This is because I did two bars of soap, two cups of washing soda, and one cup of baking soda.
